The results are in! I am a little surprised, as I honestly don’t like most piano pop covers, but as one of my followers pointed out, “Instrumental arrangements offer a whole different type of artistry.”
After discussing it a bit with my boyfriend, we concluded I don’t generally like piano covers for two reasons: 1. the melody is already boring and sounds terrible when it’s put on one instrument, and 2. some of the important accompaniment features get lost. However, in this piano cover, none of the accompaniment is lost to preserve the melody, because there are two pianists:
Katy Perry’s “E.T.” is a prime offender of the first reason, and the pianist in this video does a great job of making an interesting piano cover. (Don’t get me wrong; I love the song, I just don’t think most people can make a decent piano-only cover of it.)
